In my vision for the future of fashion, garment production would splinter into small- scale, localized production, combining traditional techniques and silhouettes with modern innovations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My scenario takes place in Friesland, where my family is from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I started by looking at traditional Frisian cultural dress. Taking images from all over Friesland, tracing what I would use in designing garments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I then decided to focus on sailing, using traditional Sk\u00fbtsjes as a starting point, I continued by looking at modern-day innovations in sailing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3D molded sails are one of the biggest innovations in sailing and could possibly present an interesting opportunity for innovations in garment production as well. 3D Molded sails made by printing layers of plastic fibers which determine its characteristics. These fibers can be made from recycled materials and can be recycled again. The printed sail is then molded into its ideal position by heating it on an enormous adjustable mold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This technique could be used in garment production by printing all pattern pieces, after which these would be molded into their desired shape. This would reduce waste from cutting pattern pieces and darts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recco produces a technology found on a lot of outerwear. Its products use radar reflective technology which enables people to be more quickly located after an avalanche or when they are lost at sea. I envisioned a fabric which incorporates radar reflective materials, embroidered in traditional Frisian patterns. If someone were to be lost at sea they would be easily found thanks to this fabric. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This fabric could then be used in the production of offshore garments, to increase the safety of those working at sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wanted to incorporate traditional Frisian elements in offshore clothing, so I used Frisian fisherman\u02bcs pants and knitwear as inspiration. I continued my research by looking into traditional lace, jewelry and cultural dress from fishing communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I continued on, designing several looks each passing week. Eventually I had amassed over 60 possible silhouettes. I narrowed it down to 24, which I further developed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of these looks, I further developed in CLO3D. Eventually making these renders and the subsequent animation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
